Research and Buy Handmade Ye'ii Style Navajo Rug (Native American)
This one-of-a-kind rug was handmade by Navajo artist Treva Peshlakai. It depicts four tribespeople performing the 'Nightway Chant.' This traditional ritual is performed exclusively in winter. It is a ceremony designed to bring healing to the tribe. During the final night of the ceremony 'Ye'ii' dawn blue masks distinguishing them from 'Ye'ii Bicheii,' the grandfather of the gods, Talking God, who wears a white mask. This gorgeous rug features a Navajo design element called the 'Spirit Line.' Weavers incorporate Spirit Lines for a variety of reasons including orientation, taboo, or to teach a lesson. In centuries past the traditional Navajo dwelling, called a Hogan, was dark inside and the Spirit Line was used to point towards the rising sun. Weavers also include spirit lines to allow spirits an exit point by which to excape the intricate pattern. Spirit Lines are also included as an intentional imperfection to bring about the Navajo state of 'Hozho' or harmony.
