This piece is constructed in the fashion of ancient mosaics; each tiny inlaid tesserae or tile is painstakingly handcut and set. The pendant is strung on a strand of baby white pearls. The iridescent glass, set in the middle of the baby stone border, is from an archaeological dig in Israel. The glass is ground up and mixed with a resin, then inlaid like paste to lend a textured look. A petite square sterling silver tile of wheat, an ancient symbol of bounty and fertility, dangles whimsically from the pendant. The pearls at the top are always white but you may choose between baby chrysacola beads(blue/green semi-precious stones from Peru) or baby hematite (gunmetal grey). This beautiful piece is made for Angie Olami in a studio in Israel near the Mediterranean Sea that specializes in working with Ancient Roman glass and this type of detailed inlaid work. The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in color and sizing. Subtle shade variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly. Please do not get your jewelry wet. Treat it as if it were 2,000 years old. Avoid showering or swimming with your jewelry on, and don't use hairspray near it. It's recommended that you not even touch it frequently -- oils from your hands may alter the glass color and remove its luster. Clean the silver with a cloth, but try not to rub the ancient glass.
